For three months in 1988, The Journal covered the case of 11-year-old Tommy Picard of Fall River, thought to be a runaway. About a dozen stories followed the search for Tommy, which ended in January 1989, when he was found murdered in Cook Pond. www.projo.com/words/2004/20040102_tp.htm

Here is more the ProJo about Tommy's case. Very sad. Tommy's father joined in the search, though he was dying of the liver disease cirrhosis and had been in and out of the hospital. Harold L. Picard Sr. trudged out into the woods, searching for his son for two hours. He scoured the area around Cook Pond, where several witnesses said Tommy had headed on the day he disappeared. Picard Sr. died shortly afterward, on Oct. 16. www.projo.com/news/content/projo_20030929_cold29.3cf4c.html
